The Social Effects of Drug Use on the Inmates of Swaqa Reform and Rehabilitation Center in the Hashemite

ABSTRACT This study aimed to investigate the effect of drug use on the social aspects of the inmates in Swaqa Reform and Rehabilitation Center in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and to measure the extent of the influence difference due to the age variable, educational level, and the income. To achieve the goals of the study, an intentional sample of 150 individuals from the drug users and the convicts was chosen from Swaqa Center. The study data were collected through a questionnaire. To answer the study questions, the researcher adopted the means, standard deviations, and One-Way and Three-Way AOVA. The study found that the most important social effects resulting from using drugs are: the unemployment, harassment of women, poverty, the addicted person loses the ability to interact with others, the addiction forfeits the societies from self-dependence and causes to poor adaptation in marital relationships, and weakens the conscience of the addicted person. Moreover, it was clear from the study results that the most affected by addiction were those with the lowest educational level, the oldest, and who earn higher incomes.
